OK, I still have to order my jacks- what should I get for these? I am looking around for something with the 5 contacts for switching, am lost in parts ordering limbo...If anyone can recommend what I need here that would be great

Starting to get "mouser hypnosis" eyes glazed over, mousing hand sore from re-entering search terms in search of the right component

I think it's mouser part 161-0084 or something similar.

@ Mr. Bigandtall, here you are: schem

I hope it is ok to post a schematic this way... in case just let me know.

i removed the Vr part of the circuit. then the two halves of SW4 are named SW4-A and SW4-B, all contacts of the same half have the same colour.the main lug of SW4A goes directly to the blend pot.

enjoy!

I give the credit to jaymasicsfreak who sold me his mcmeat guts.

Thanks for posting that bypass schematic. I'm going to give it a shot when I get a chance! I mainly play bass, so this is a godsend. I was going to build Moosapotamus's paralooper, but maybe this will make that not necessary. It gives you a blend of clean signal and effects loop signal, right?

Meatball uses a stereo switched jack for the input...

...and mono switched jacks for all the other jacks

Can someone tell me if they are ordering any of those jacks so that I can piggyback on the order?

Taylor

Since it looks like you're in the US, Small Bear has them cheaper.

Mouser also has them for about the same price.

Yep, it has lugs for tip, ring, sleeve, and also tip switch, ring switch, and sleeve switch. When nothing is plugged in to the jack, the switches are closed (connected) and when you plug in a cable, the switches open (disconnect). You can combine this with the fact that, inserting a mono cable into a stereo jack connects the sleeve and ring, to do some pretty complex switching stuff. This is the same kind of jack Lovetone used, and I've used them on a Ring Stinger and ? Flanger clone with success.

bigandtall

Awesome. Thanks so much for explaining that to me.

Taylor

Actually, looking at the schem, I'm not sure you need a switching jack. Looks like you just need regular stereo jacks. As I mentioned above, the stereo jack connects the "ring" and sleeve together when a mono cable is inserted, because a mono cable doesn't have a ring connection.

The jack I linked above will work for this, you just don't actually need the switch lugs for this purpose. Since they're quite cheap, there's no reason not to use them unless you prefer a metal jack.

Hey bigandtall, I already placed my order, sadly so I cannot include you! Now I wish I'd checked small bear first!

No worries. I didn't realize that small bear had something that would work. I'm actually in the same neighborhood as small bear, so the shipping isn't an issue. You pay a processing fee and he leaves it at a nearby music store.

To do the fx loop bypass, does anyone know if you need to replace the rotary switch with a 3 pole one? Or can you use the existing one?

phuzle

Would anyone be willing to make me a meatball pcb?  I don't know how to make them or really have the cash to get the supplies - but I can pay you whatever is fair for 1 pcb and proper shipping.  I want the pcb with the switches on board.  I have all the parts and I'm about ready to perf it but after reading how much of a pain it is to do all the wiring, I'd love to keep it simple.  Please PM if you'll help!

bigandtall

Talk to John Lyons... he can do it. He is selling enclosures in the forsale section.

MarcoMike

the bypass/loop thing deserves a 3P4T rotary, or a 2P6T in which 2 position will remain unused

bigandtall

That's what I thought... I'm going to add that to my small bear order-- unfortunately, all they have is pc mount  :icon_sad:

Maybe it's worth it to order a regular mount from somewhere else.

MarcoMike

I've always found only pcb mount rotarys... but it's not a big problem to solder wires on them...
