Problem with audio probe

I can't seem to get this audio probe to work. I think maybe I have the tip and sleeve confused because I bought a cheap horizontal jack. Are the contacts on this jack switched? like, the tip contact is the closest to the input? Thanks guys.

Yes. The contacts are switched. Use your meter - plug in a 1/4" cord, then use your meter set to continuity to test which lug is active for the tip.
