I happened to have a couple of CA3080 that I don't know what to do with. I ordered 10 from Smallbear and used them to build two MXR Dyna Comp (one for a friend) and one Ross compressor so I don't need any more of those. Any suggestions??

Mutron Micro V envelope filter, Maestro S&H.

...or...you could simply hang onto them and wait.  They might be worth something in a few years.

Many simple schematics for electronic drums will use a 3080 in order to have some envelope-dynamics.

could it be used to make an envelope triggered swell?  like the slow gear minus the audio gating, so that it passes signal if you don't pick hard enough to trigger the swell?

You can probably do that with the PAiA Gator circuit, which uses a 3080.

There are quite literally dozens of VCF designs using two 3080's. Oberheim SEM and EDP Wasp spring to mind - both of those are multimode too (ie HP, BP, LP).  8)

Tonepad has the Anderton volume pedal mod using a 3080 and it's always good to have a volume pedal without pot scratch noise.
