based on erik hansen's marsha-ruby schematic, i built a marsha ruby on a strip board..
here's the schematic

and here's my stripboard layout

is it correct?

i've soldered everything up including the headphone out (using GGG's headphone mod wiring). everything seemed connected right.

the j201 (later changed to MPF102) are biased to 4.5V.

but i got oscillation sound coming out of it especially through the speaker. it's not high pitch, but some sort like a low freq oscillation (i think).

anybody got any idea what's wrong with it?

thanks in advance

do ask me for any more info if needed

by the way, the stripboard layout i did based on a fetzer-ruby stripboard layout done by Bancika. i downloaded from diy-fever.com

Unless I'm missing something here...I see a jumper from your IC pin 3 going up to the volume control on your Vero board but the schematic shows that 3 only goes to ground.
Ernie Ball Music Man - JPM, THD Univalve, Grace Big Daddy, PepperShredder, BSIAB2, FireFly Amplifier.

that strip line is for ground and volume 1 as per schematic goes to ground. am i rite?  by the way c4 in the layout should be 100uf. typo there.

Not sure about the oscillation, but is the gain control wired properly or does it work backwards?

CynicalMan

In the schematic and your layout, there isn't the necessary filter on the end. In the original ruby it's the 10Ω resistor and the 47nF cap.

Adding those in will probably fix the oscillation.

i used 5k gain control. i'll try rewiring the pot. maybe its backwards.

oh, i followed erik hansen's schem exactly, which he mod from fetzer-ruby schem (by ROG; can be found it ROG's FAQ). the schematic of fetzer-ruby also don't hav that filter.
but i'll try adding that if rewiring the gain pot doesn't solve my prob.

thanks!
