Who's making their own etching layouts using Eagle?  Which Style of PC Mount Pots are you using?

The thing I'm worst at is securing the board, and I think it'd be better if I fix it to the Pots via lugs.

I usually design my pcb's to use pots mounted directly to the boards, I dont use eagle and had to design my pot patterns myself (i use 16mm alpha) I'm sure the program i use has an export facility for eagle if you want the pattern i can try and export it for use in eagle.

Please at least have 1 forum post before sending me a PM demanding something.

I use eagle, and i mount my board with the pots. It saves a LOT of wiring time when you do it that way.

I never found a good pot symbol so i just use a pad for each terminal (pads are in the stock eagle library called "wirepad"). I primarily use 16mm Alpha pots, of which many terminal styles will work with the basic pad and drill selection in eagle. I've even used the "3,81/1,4" pad with a 0.125" drill to mount lugged soldering terminals (http://www.smallbearelec.com/Detail.bok?no=116) that you would use for point to point wiring. The lugged types should have slotted holes, but those can be tricky to implement yourself and some board shops don't offer that type of hole. You can also fold the lugs like this:

^when you do it this way you really have to get the potentiometer (and in this case the foot switch) holes spot on. It helps to go up a few 1/32" in pot shaft diameter so you have a little play, especially since it gets covered over by a washer.

The other way is with the PCB mount pots (http://www.smallbearelec.com/Detail.bok?no=692) like you see in most older EHX boxes. This mounting style is a little more forgiving  when you mount it on the PCB and with enclosure hole size for the pot. Plus you don't have to deal with slotted holes or bending solder lugs.

Thanks for those examples and suggestions!,  I've got the gauss markov library so I've already got a couple different components that I can edit.

I just figured out how eagle's measuring system works so this should be much easier!

sorry to bring this back again.  is anyone have any verified pc board-mount pot eagle files to share?

Sure.

16mm PCB Pots

whoa, thanks madbean!  I wasn't expecting someone to just throw it out there.

Hey, no problem. I have a whole modified library I will get around to releasing some day.

Old thread, but does anyone have this symbol for eagle? File is gone. I've only done board mounted pots once before, but the default symbol in the gaussmarkov library I remember the holes and pads being too small for standard alpha PCB mount 16mm pots. After I drilled the holes bigger there wasn't much of the pad left.

I've got some untested ones here that you can check for me.

I only edited the main one...
