I recently built a rebote 2.5 and at first i had no sound. I replaced the 5v regulator (78L05) with a 5v regulator from radio shack (7805).
Now the dry signal comes through loud and clear but the repeats are very faint and poor quality. Is this because of the regulator? Is the pt2399 busted?
Thanks for the help in advance.

Its on a pcb. I etched it myself.

my rebote gave no signal with a fried pt2399 if that helps.  but you really need to check the voltages at the pt and the tl72 and the vreg. The more info you can supply the more help you are likely to get.

Yo!
try to replace tl72, it might have been damaged!
...it is always funny until someone gets hurt!!!

MmmPedals

I did try replacing the TL0172. No Luck. I was wondering if it is possible that the regulator was not a proper replacement or if it should work.

Do you have a meter? You should first check to make sure that the new regulator is in fact giving you 5v.

MmmPedals

Ok i finally got back to this one. i measured the voltage and i am getting 0v at pin 13 on the pt2399. Does that mean the chip is shot?
Everything else seems to be ok. The regulator is giving me 4V+ with a battery measuring around 8V.

ianmgull

If you took voltages of all the pt3299 pins as well as the opamp it would be easier to troubleshoot.

Maasure the voltage at pin 1 of to PT2399 and check for around 5 volts.  This will tell you if your regulator is functioning.
Next use you audio probe and see if the dry signal makes to pin15 [2399].  If it does audio probe pin12 and see if you hear a delayed signal.

Believe it or not, as far as many effects are concerned, 8v is a dead battery.  Use a fresh battery and post voltages.

7805 are opposite in pinout to 78L05. Don't know if you checked that your 7805 is correctly oriented?

ok i measured all the pins. The battery was at 8.58V. at the input of the refulator it measured 8.05V. the output 4.27V
TL072

2-4.05V
3-4.02V
4-0V
5-3.24V

8-8.07V

PT2399
1-4.31V
2-2.14v
3-0
4-0
5-2.42v
6-2.13V
7-0.21V
8-0.58V
9-2.10V
10-2.11V

12-2.10v
13-0v
14-4.16v
15-2.11v
16-2.11v

How do i do an audio probe? do you mean hooking up a jack at that part of the circuit?

Refulator... dont know what it is but i want one. :icon_biggrin: I meant regulator.

oldrocker

Do a search for audio probe.  Geofex or diyguitarists websites have instructions for building and using one.  My advice is don't try and debug without an audio probe.  They're that invaluable.

MmmPedals

I probed pins 12 and 15 of the pt2399 and the dry signal is loud and clear but no delay. does that mean the chip is busted?
I am gonna make an order from small bear pretty soon so i would like know if a new chip would get the pedal up and running.
Thanks for all the help

Sorry to bump that tread with that no helping question but how sound that delay ? close to "analog" sounding pedal ?

It's worth searching for pedals on YouTube, some people like to show off their builds there.

Hi

Did you resolve this ????? I'm having pretty much the same issues with my Rebot 2.5 (etched board from tonepad) pinout voltages about the same slightly higher with new battry ?? I really wanna get this thing working Help!!

Any body know what the pinouts should be are they same as the echo base

MmmPedals

yeah i got it working. i had a solder bridge to ground. it was impossible to see. i found it only because i knew it couldn't be anything else. if you get the dry signal and you know your chip is working then your wet signal is going to ground somewhere.
