I love that tone. It is possible to emulate through analog electronics? What pedal do you guys know of that best approximates this sound?

my madison prophecy head has a similar tone. it's solid state so if you found a schem...

Something high gain like a Dr. Boogie. Although (no offense) I can't see why you like that particular sound. I know good tone is subjective; what do you like about it?

I have played with it and I like that amount of gain. I am currently debugging my Dr.Boogie and it would be really nice if it sounded as good as the "insane" channel when I complete it.

dr boogey has insane amounts of gain if you're into that. I find that useful gain pot range is between 0 and 3 (on the scale to 10). After that it only adds more sustain, noise and compression. I remember vaguely insane model on the POD I had and it was way over the top for my liking. Somewhat like boogey on higher gain settings really.

I actually have gotten a similar tone with a Big Muff with creamy dreamer mods and with a higher value gain pot (at least 250k).

I have a couple Line6 devices and the Dr. Boogie is what you are looking for... I think the dr boogie actually has more gain than the insane model.

Lol. That's a very encouraging statement here. I'll resume my drBoogie's debug process in a few days, when the trim pots arrive. Thanks for your replies.  :)

it's funny, I liked the sound of the Line 6 DS-1 emulation much better than the real thing, and was trying to figure out how to mod the DS-1 to sound more like it.  Analogue emulations of digital circuits...

I've only ever gotten a chance to play with the clean, crunch, metal, and insane settings but I hated them. The distortion was really ugly. The crunch channel had no high end and the metal channel had no low end. I found the insane channel is kinda useless except for "Hey, I wonder what would happen if I turned ALL of my distortion knobs up?" experiments. Still, if you feel that your music needs that amount of distortion, go for it!

I never tried a Dr. Boogie but if you like it you could try and add an MT-2 style tone section. I personally would try to mod a Joe Davisson circuit like the Vulcan.

Also, I posted a schem like 3 or 4 years ago called the "Cauldron of Gain" that you may like. It was an 18v (by accident) firebreather. One of the Russian forum guys made a pcb for it. If you search for it, you'll find it but the schem was only posted on a temporary site so it's no longer up. I can find it if you want it.

Try DieFet: http://www.techniguitare.com/projets/DieFet/. Originally it's a Diesel VH-4 head simulation, but it has a sound just like my Line6 Spider II on the Insane channel. Well, not with the standard settings, but my own setting with loads of treble 8)
