Ultimate tremolo pedal?

I'm looking to build a tremolo pedal with capabilities beyond the basic rate/depth/wave options. I'd like to give it the potential to be used for making a bunch of noise as well.
So let's throw ideas around, yes?

Did some research, and that looks very nice. So just getting some clarification:
It has the basic Speed and Depth controls, along with Smooth that I'm guessing is like the wave shape. Gain I assume is for making up for any volume loss.
Now what are the Spacing and Symmetry controls for?
