what parts make up the input and output buffers on the TS? I want to build one and remove them...

and heres a dumb one,,, if i replace a tone control (100K) with a 100K resistor will I have the effect of the tone being wide open?

thanks scott

Go to geofex and read the technology of the Tube Screamer article.  It's all explained as nicely as anyone could possibly want there. http://www.geofex.com/Article_Folders/TStech/tsxfram.htm

It depends on the type of tone control and where you stick the 100k.  It could have the effect of being completely "closed".  Tell us more.

well, I never use the tone control, it always stays full on to the right.... so the 20kg pot that is in there with the 2nd lug to a polarized tant 0.22 to 220k to grnd. Basically I want to replace this with a fixed resistor so that it has the effect of the tone pot maxed out for a treble sound ie as far right as it will go. so would it be just a 20k resistor or will I have to place the tant and resistor to grnd afterwards or what?
by the way thanks for the reply.

OK the "20k" resistor has to be eliminated and then the .22uf > 220k > grnd is moved to the - of the opamp for full tone... no heres the question on the GGG PCB would you eliminate lug 1, 2 , or 3 and connect what two lugs to keep the chain in the circuit?

From what I see you clip trace t1 in front of the 1k and connect t2 to t3 but then again it could be to clip t2 in front of the 1k and connect t1 and t3? I dont know.

by the way Im using this mod so I can better understand PCB's and how to trace them, plus this is something I want to do and eventually draw out my own TS without buffers, no tone control, a-symetrical diode clipping, increased gain etc... I just dont want to ruin 3 or 4 pcbs doing this.

Please give me some help even if the PCB cant be modified to do this tell me how it could be drawn to do this.. thanks scott

ubersam

You don't need to clip any traces. Just remover/unsolder the wires from T1 & T3. Solder in a 20k resistor from T1 to T3 using the existing holes where you removed the wires from. Then take the wire from T2 and solder it to T3. That will be just like having the tone pot on full.

Or, just remove the tone pot, C9, & R11 altogether...

thank you ubersam, I was atleast heading in the right direction, Ive never made PCB's always used vero so tracing them is a new art for me.
