Your stripboard looks sweet, so I'm guessing the issue must be the offboard wiring. Here'e a little offboard help from the superb Beavis: http://www.beavisaudio.com/techpages/StompboxWiring/

Thanks!  and yeah i have got that page printed out and in my mancave somewhere, maybe i'll de-solder it and try that version.  why is it, that some of the generic
true bypass diagrams i've seen look different?  the beavis one looks diff. to the tonepad one.

Ah, didn't notice that! The Beavis one is the 'easy' way. There are other ways which ground the input of the effect when bypassed, this allows the effect's input cap to drain when bypassed which prevents popping when the effect is engaged. By the look of your 3PDT you've done it this way. For new builders offboard wiring is the hard part, but once you've got a few under your belt it gets easier! Don't give up - it'll all fall into place - it's a learning curve. I boxed up my Assassin yesterday, works good, I'll post some pics when I get chance.

Ah ok.  cos i thought after a while, "man this thing has a lot of wiring"...something like 6 grounds plus all the other stuff.  is there a way to avoid the pop (i had a pedal that did that - very annoying it was) with the beavis way?

but yeah i'm a lot more confident with the vero, will stick to that...now it's just the off board stuff, like you said.   is there a prescribed order of things, eg vero - attach wires to vero - drill enclosure - offboard wiring, or something like that?

any chance of some sound clips?  i would love to hear this pedal i failed to build twice   ;)

Try a 100K lin pot for the volume.  The input loading of the 2nd stage will change the resulting taper(look at geofex section on pots)

maybe get a few ideas from this schematic, input and output buffers and tone control

one thing i just thought of...would you mind posting to me the labels of the vero layout?  what i mean is that some say "lug 3 of gain" etc, but it would be helpful for me to know what the function of that particular track is, eg "output" etc.

No - it's the easiest method to get your head round, but grounded input when bypassed is better.

I think it depends on your experience. I build the board, put it in the enclosure, then wire it up. The first time I test it is when it's finished. Maybe a little blase and over confident, but I have built a lot of stuff, I expect it to work first time.  :icon_biggrin:

Very nice! Love the Assassin's Creed graphic. How does it sound?

Dude thanks so much for the re-mockup of the vero!  As always you're super helpful.  I told my gf about how
much you help, and she wonders if you're a teacher or something?

Anyway your finished product looks awesome, gives me some good motivation to get back to it tonight...drill enclosure,
mount vero and wire up again.  I don't want the pop so will prob. have another go at the tonepad way.  cheers!   :icon_biggrin:

Hey guys, I thought about James' (anchovie) advice and restarted this thread so anyone who might like to help doesn't have to
search for other posts.

Anyway i just tried a different way of wiring the 3pdt (from Brian Wamplers book, How to build effects pedals) but still no joy..
tried some different grounding points (so all seven aren't going to the same place).  when i turn it up real loud with the effect
on, i get a really faint sound and the knobs do work, but in reverse!?  anyway i'm gonna audio probe it tonight.  Jeez this thing
is testing me!   ;D

Hey guys, got some debugging here if someone wouldn't mind having a quick look at these?  the stars in the first diagram are points that no sound was emitted while audio probing.  i used a wiring diagram i got from brian wamplers book.  included is a photo of the actual pedal.  oh yeah i took the trannie readings with the black probe grounded, effect on, and took reading with red probe...is that right?

i'm also worried a little about my grounding points, dunno if they are correct or not.  any help greatly appreciated.   :)

EDIT: ignore the star beside the lower central lug on the 3pdt switch, nothing is connected to it at all anyway.  my mistake.   :icon_redface:

Phil, your Q2 voltages look a little off to me, C to high, E too low. I'll take voltages from mine tomorrow.

BTW, do you get audio out of the first stage, ie at the middle lug of the Gain pot?

Hey Rick, now you mention it that's odd, cos yesterday before the post i did then later i didn't.   might check the solder connection there tonight.

another question (they're endless eh?), how do i test the points where there is no audio signal?  someone was saying something about it in a diff
post but i didn't understand.  oh yeah some of the points made much more signal than others.

oh i should also say that i had to drill a hole to fit the standoff in, but i added in a jumper so it should be fine?

how does the sludge switch look, grounds (black wires) and dc jack look (i omitted the battery clip)?

small update, lugs 2 on the vol and gain pots don't have any signal coming through.
