El Heisenberg

he means way huge red llama

LPB1 is as basic as you can get. If that's not bare bones enough, just turn the volume up.

Yea I know what that means. And yes I want basic because its the first perf build I've done.  Done several PCB builds but none on perf yet.  The fulltone fat boost looks pretty basic and I already have everything lying around besides the transistors

Hi
Remove the clipping section (D1-D4, C5-6, Q3-4, SW1) to have a simple, low component count, clean boost or use a On-(off)-On switch to leave the OD choice there.
Without clipping its clean and adds about 25-30dB. enough to drive a tube amp to OD or hump up the bass in a Si amp.

Its so easy you can build a "ded bug" and tamper with C1-2,4,7 to have it your way.

The only bad sounding stomp box is an unbuilt stomp box. ;-)

Another vote for the red llama/CA tube sound fuzz, it is simple (one active component), has a good, "transparent" low gain sound, and gobs of volume.  Not the quietest, but good bang for the buck.

ROG May Queen? There is a perf layout on their site

Not built it yet though I did a vero layout for it.  I think it's quite bright but you can adjust the filter cap in it to tame some highs

Gus

You could try the NPN boost/beginner project.   Gain of about X2 on up

These all look cool.  Im not really looking too much for any OD as much as I am something just to fatten single coils  ;)

I've never tried one, but isnt the stratoblaster designed just for that?

Breadboard it!

Doesn't do "OD'' alone, but can help 'ride' any distortion you are getting to stay in the 'sweet zone'.
Reducing dynamics and bringing signal level up to 'optimum' distortion input level, compression.
Any active device can be made to compress, but the associated distortion will be what it is, super-brief list of examples: CMOS distorts easy' and compresses, bipolars may tend to sound harsh by the time they're pushed hard enough to be appreciably compressing...as far as 'wire up a gain stage and push it' type circuits go.
Convention creates following, following creates convention.

I bet you Mr Breadboard could tell you!   ;D

After all since I do play a DG inspired black strat, and do love his tones, and since he did play a Colorsound power boost.....

Does anyone have a layout for this?

El Heisenberg

Domt be afraid of perf board. Its easy. Just make sure that the pads arent bridged and all connections are right.

I built the lpb1 point to point a while ago u could try that too. I could prolly build lpb1 on a perf board tje size of my thumbnail now.

Stratoblaster is made to fatten strats. Try the way huge red llamma anyway though cos its just great OD.

Its not so much I'm afraid of it, I'm currently trying to use parts I have around already.  So less and simpler is better.  It is also my first perf so I want it to work, get my confidence up  ;D.  I'll try the stratoblaster then maybe the WHRL.

jkokura

I priced it out. WHRL can be made for under $30 on perf including a prepainted enclosure from PPP.

Also, the Tube Reamer from ROG is similar.

I don't know what happened to this third page.  Where did you price the parts from?
