Hello and a Happy New Year,

I found some schematics of two old (non-tube) versions of EHX Black Finger: one version use a 741 and the other one use a 741 and a CA3080.
I searched on the forum, but I didn't found any PCBs for them (or one of them).

Can anyone help me?

Thx a lot!

Ooh, Thanks- I've got one of those.

Woow...you're a lucky man!
How it sounds?
Is better for bass that a regular compressor (Dynacomp, Orange Squeezer, etc.)?

Nasse

I have old one with round 741 steel can and 3080 and it sounds...

- sometimes noisey, I think noise specs are not so good
- you can get nice tones from it (tone control works nice), if you want bassy or trebley just turn the tone control
- you get distortion, when batteries are weak

I think it is tailored for guitar, years ago I tried to plug a bassplayers f jazz bass into it and it was just feeding back

Yeah, if used as a gentle comp its ok, and used with a cheesy fuzz the tone controls a bonus ,But the soul preacher gets more use as it only takes 1 battery.
I have'nt had a dynacomp for years -so I cant comment.( might have to build one).
Nor, have I used it on bass -I doubt it would be very spectacular, I use mine for kind of lofi vintage Zappa type tones.

Thx a lot both of you, Tonemonger and Nasse!

Your answers almost cancelled my wish to build one :)
I have 3 clones of compressors (Orange Squeezer, Dynacomp and Demeter Compulator), so I think that's enough.
I wanted to build it only if it would be designed for bass.
