I can't get any sound at all out of what I understand to be one of the simplest circuits possible  :icon_redface:

Here is the schematic:

I am pretty confident that all the components are wired in the perfboard correctly as per the layout below:

I think I am failing at wiring the input, output and pots correctly. This is what I have done:

Do I need to connect all the grounds to something else? Or have I grounded too much stuff? I have no idea what I've done wrong. Honestly, if I can't get this to work I'm gonna take up Duplo or fingerpainting or something.

Help would be much appreciated.

Hello

I think the battery is not wired correctly: with your wiring it is always "on".
The "-" of the battery should be soldered on the ring of a stereo jack, and the normal ground to the jack sleeve. So when you insert a mono jack a connection is done between these two points and the battery is "on".
You'll need to rewire your grounds because the "-" from the battery should not be connectect first to the pot but to the ring of the input jack.

Also I suggest you to find the datasheet of the MPSA13 to be sure of the pinout.

The schematic shows a 10k resistor and the layout shows a 100k.  For the MPSA13, you should be using a 10k.

Yeah I used a 10k as per the schematic.

Thanks for the help, I will try this when I get home.

Sweet so I finally have this making a listenable sound  :icon_twisted:.
No idea what the problem was - all I did was unsolder everything and put it on a fresh area of stripboard. I socketed the caps, diode and transistor in order to muck around with different parts to get a dirtier sound - looking to make something to replace my EHX Double Muff as a bass fuzz pedal. Pics to come once I get a permanent build done.

Thanks for the help - off to play some more   :icon_twisted: :icon_twisted: :icon_twisted: :icon_twisted:
