Is Big Daddy pedal supposed to be this loud?

Ok, well I built a Big Daddy pedal - my first pedal, and the distortion sounds cool and everything, but I can just barely turn on my amp volume or it gets crazy loud.  I'm a little confused, it supposed to be like this? I saw somewhere else on the forum someone calling it an AMP - I was really just trying to build it as a distortion pedal. I didn't realize it would have too much volume to use my actual amp behind it.  Did I possibly miss something or is this working as designed.  The only thing I did differently from the schematic was I used a J201 instead of a 2N5457 - I also tried a 457 with similar results.

Thanks,
Jason

Is pin one of the volume control grounded?
If not then it's wide open all the time.

I did the same thing the other day in a rush.
Glad it's working for you now!
