Quick question, im Changing battery the snap for dc 'barrel style' jack in a friends  big muff. should i make this dc jack center pin negaive? if im right this is the standard convention yes?

You use a 2.5mm center negative jack with a NC switch built in, (unless you don't want any battery option, in which case the switch part isn't necessary.)
