Since I have lots of NOS and salvaged parts I use the NTE cross referance to ID my stuff.
So my question is.........can I rely on NTE cross referances........is it good enough?

I a schematic calls for a 2N3906 = NTE 159    If I have a 2N2906 = NTE 159 is that good?
What I'm I loosing?

Is this a question at all or just wondering???
Anyway..............comments?

Hi, both parts you mentioned are currently in production so I'm not sure why you would need the NTE cross reference for those, as you can just look up the datasheet.

Personally, I've had mixed results using NTE components, and I've heard that they source their parts from the manufacturer's sub-spec parts.

I prefer using On Semiconductor's cross-reference, which I've found much more reliable. Also, the results list shows On-Semi's part number cross-referenced to other manufacturers' part numbers and tells whether the other manufacturers' parts are still in production, so you may have a few options when it comes to replacing the part.

Excuse me if I'm wrong, but I thought 2N2906 and 2N3906 are the same. Except one is a TO-92 the other TO-18 package?
