I just got confirmation about ZVEX schematics

They can be posted freely here. However I do ask that whatever schematics we do share are redrawn and not any type of factory schematics.
Long time members will remember that they were not allowed to be posted. Zachary has lifted this restriction.

Thanks Zachary.

I forgot to add, to all that complied over the years.

Thank you.

I think, that it's very wonderful of guys like Zach when they do stuff like this. However, I feel a bit like they're/he's resigned to it because of the fighting on boards such as this and others, and perhaps he's not actually very happy about it but has given up the fight. I know that his new product is based in some ways around this concept, but I think that the DIY community as a whole hasn't been respectful of Zach, and not just Zach but many of the 'small guys.'

I recently read a big long forum topic in which PaulC of 'Timmy' fame talked about how he feels about the issue (He's a very generous chap by the way). I respect him and Zach as entrepreneurs who have done a great job of creating popular products and making a living out of something that most of us just do for hobbies. And while not everyone sees eye to eye with these people, I want to offer heartfelt thanks to Zach.

Truth be known I would love to be able to afford to buy every pedal I lay eyes on and say, "that's sounds/looks/smells wonderful, I'm going to put it on my PTJr." I can't do that. I used to try and do that on occasion. However, I discovered DIYing the pedals I wanted and my life changed (a couple years ago now). I now have sold pedals I really liked, so I could buy the parts to build that very same pedal again, not because it cost less (it really doesn't if you consider tools, consumables and especially time), but because I LOVE to build pedals. It is extremely satisfying, very enjoyable, very 'cave time' (which all men need apparently, at least if you believe the books my wife reads - I love her very much cause she practices what she reads and gives me all the cave time I need, which of course obviously comes back to her in ways that she really loves also, but enough about that, this is DIYSB.com not HWAOW.com [HowWeAdoreOurWives.com]), and finally it is perhaps the only hobby I have that I have ever liked more than actually PLAYING music. I saw someone's signature on one of these forums that said something along the lines of, "the guitar is merely a device for testing guitar pedals." I agree wholeheartedly.

My point is, with all due respect to people like Zach for their capitalistic entrepreneurship, I would love to buy your pedals and play with them yet can't afford to, so I'd much rather build them and give homage to you because of the intense satisfaction it gives me not, as some might do, for spite of you. I hope that most of us here come at this from this perspective, and not from spite.

Perhaps I look like a fool when I ramble like this.

I hear you there.  As a poor college student, I can't afford to buy the newest, flavor-of-the week pedal just to see if I like it and if it works with my setup.  Having schematics around allows me to throw the circuit on the breadboard and see if I actually like it.  Chances are I'm not going to build it into a box (again, money) but I like to be able to listen to the more popular pedals without waiting several months and spending a (relative) fortune.

+1 to everything above, being a high school student who makes ~$50 a weekend.

$50 a weekend, I could tell you stories about when I went to college. Let me put it this way.... yeah Snickers does satisfy!

Some of Zach's pedals have sequenced LED lights for manual or automatic sequencing.  I always wondered if he used 4017 decade counter IC's.  Does anyone know or has a schem of how he achieved this?

clock doesn't have to be a 4093. it can be a 555 (though that will bleed more) or anything that delivers a square pulse.

interesting turn of events. not sure i would have gotten into fixing and building pedals if i weren't so inspired by zvex back in 2000. much respect.

in case anyone has a fuzzfactory, i have found that the typical input cap blend mod adds a world of dimension to that pedal. the .01 cap between q1 and q2 gets a 100k pot>3.3 uf cap paralleling the .01. it's a beautiful thing.

my other favorite mod is to put a germ npn in place of the si q1. softens up the tone in a really pretty way.

Now that's a great post to get the ball rolling.

I like the sound of the blend mod. Placing after Q1 probably makes this cap mixing thing work better than placing it on the input before the input buffer, you often see this.

Too bad this didn't happen last week. I just built two Fuzz Factories last week. I'm not sure that I can fit this mod into the box. I built each on a 5x32 hole piece of perfboard.

I had been thinking that a tone control was something that was missing from the Fuzz Factory.

well, you can just tap two wires, one on each side of the .01 cap, run them to a small100k pot and place the 3.3 carefully on the pot using hot glue or other technique.

6 knob fuzz factory, hmmm.

Did you ever hear about google ?  Sometimes it can be your friend:

It seems that google gives you a lot of zvex schems/layouts anyway, so maybe zach is reconsidering his position about the spreading of his works - as some guys (and girls) are doin' somehow (think Devi Ever) - I guess that having those schems easily available with a quick google search doesn't necessarily mean you won't sell a good amount of pedals.
Luckily for him, he's got a good name worldwide, so there will always be people buying his products.
