Any word from Digitech? I ran into the friend who gave me the pedal, and he said it only worked for about a year, and that he never put the wrong adaptor in; it just stopped working one day.  ???

What happened to the regulators seems to make a lot less sense now.

haven't heard from them yet, but i started messing around with mine again. before i would plug it in and about a minute later it would power off. on thursday morning i plugged it in with the same results so i kept plugging and unplugging it. i messed with the knob and turned it on/off. i finally got it to come on and left it. it's been on ever since! i just left it plugged in and it hasn't turned off yet. i wonder if it has to do with how much current is being drawn on that same breaker?

it's official! my whammy is now functioning mostly normal! i gave it 5 days plugged up and a in depth test and it did shut off once. i even unplugged it several times and plugged back in in different outlets just to be safe. the only thing is it won't recalibrate properly. when i put it in calibration mode and rock the treadle it doesn't calibrate right. it could just be the led/ldr got bumped around or something.

Hi  ;D

I'm about to get a broken Whammy for 40 Bucks today!

The seller said that it's broke. The symptoms are: If you plug it on the amp using the wet out, you can't really hear the effect. If you turn up your amp volume really high you can hear some effect. It only work properly on the dry out when it's bypassed... The description is quite poor, I know, but I'll get my hands on it tonight or tomorrow after I come back from school.

Any ideas of what can be the problem?

My main reason to get is to copy the enclosure (I have a small aluminum plates folder in my backyard  :icon_twisted: ) and make my wah project, but getting it to work would be pretty nice!

As the guy never opened it or showed to a specialist, I'm confident that I may find something easy to fix.... Let's see  ::)

hello,
my problem is like yours, after the ac power supply is plugged the pedal stays on for 5/10 seconds and then goes off.
i've putted a tester on the output pins of the regulators and i saw that the cause was the LD33V regulator that drop down 1,3 v instead of 3,3 for a while
this is the cause of the switch-off of the system, so i have used an ATX 3,3v pin (pc powersupply) to power up the circuit and it works well for a long time.
now the problem is to find where to buy a LD33V!

This is what I used when I couldn't find a LD33V.

F.F.T.

I had the exact same problem with my WH4 - would power on, then off after a second or two.  At first I though maybe a regulator was bad so I replaced two of them (+5V and the +3.3V).  No difference - they were probably fine.  Then I checked the diodes with a multimeter.  It turned  out that one of them was not giving the typical 0.6V drop so I replaced it.  It was a 1N4005 and and put a 1N4007 in there instead.  (All I had on hand).  Fixed the problem!

Hi people, new guy in the forum!
+1  :'(

Have this problem too... but the fact is that I was messing arround with the tester to check some voltages because I wanted to make the true bypass mode and was lookning for +V for the led :(.

Noticed that the diodes were extremely hot, then someone's stupid finger, touched some of them, and after that, the WH-4 turned off but the red light sensor keeps alive I dont know why...

I had the same problem as you, plug in the whammy and all the leds light once very short, then nothing. LDR led is on. What fixed mine: Replacing the 2 yellow/orange-isch Tantalum caps with electrolytic caps. Both 10uF. they are close to the big chip on the board.
