So your paint cracked :-[? but your too stubborn/lazy to sand that little bugger back down too the metal? well there are two options:

1. Live with it 'hey thats kind of organic, plus its what inside that counts anyway'  ???
2. WHIP OUT A SHARPIE!!!!!! ;D

All i did was lightly draw over the cracks once it was clear sprayed and i think it really changed the feel of the whole finish, but ill let you guys decide.

Of course this was all planned just for this psudo-tutorial  :icon_rolleyes:

Heres the pics:

 ;D ;D ;D

On a serious note, I wouldn't coat over it- I recently touched up a graphic with sharpie before applying clear Krylon and it ran all over the place. The Big Ballz Booster Box looks cool as is... :)

Its pretty difficult.  Even "waterbased" finishes have some solvents in them, and can frequently be a problem.

We've had to seal in signatures on people's guitars many times, and the most helpful thing is to spray your finish on, as opposed to brushing it on, and to spray a few coats that are pretty dry.  We like to use shellac if the color isn't an issue.  Even still, it can sometimes cause problems.

I wonder if tracing the cracks with an oil enamel (Testor's model paint...) might be better...after it dries, it might react well with Krylon.  Just a guess tho.   Looks pretty cool; maybe do some of the lines in a bluish/purple!! Lol.

I was given a bashed up Doctor Q (minus the bottom).  A lot of the black paint on the top had been scratched up.  So I went over the scratches with a Sharpie, and gave it a couple of light coats of lacquer, and it looks pretty good.  Not "as new" since the original only had shiny stainless steel with silk-screened graphics over top, but certainly a little more presentable.

Every now and then, when polishing a guitar, you burn through the lacquer.  If you are lucky, you don't go through the color, but sometimes you do.  On black guitars, you can use a sharpie to touch up the color, and by the time you spray a couple coats of clear over it, it completely disappears.

any other musical use for sharpies?

OT, but having lived in a few different countries I've found it interesting that any permanent marker pen tends to get called a 'Sharpie' in both the UK and US, a 'Texter' in Australia, and a 'Vivid' in New Zealand...  All reflecting the predominant brand name I guess - much like 'Xerox'.

Well, it's interesting to me anyways!!

Back on topic - a quick flash coat or two should help stop any bleeding of the sharpie/texter/vivid due to solvents.
