PT-80 with crazy problem.

Hi there,

I've built a PT-80, but I'm not even getting sound in Bypass. I tried wiring it for the usual 'true bypass' set up I usually use from Tonepad's off board wiring, then read that the PT-80 has it's own bypass system so looked it up on GGG. Anyway, now it's not working, never has and doesn't bypass.

So I bust out the Audio Probe, and right away I'm getting a really crazy noise. I start at the input jack and things are just fine but when I get to the lug connected to the board input I get this wacko siren type noise. Does this mean my MAX1044 is shot? I got it from smallbear, and I was super careful, didn't think anything I did would blow this thing... Is it possible the part was no good before i installed it or did something I did ruin it? If it's ruined is there anything else that's ruined?

The PT-80 wiring diagram is true bypass. The only thing that might look irregular to some is that the LED resistor is on the board, whereas some folks just connect it directly to the switch.

All I can recommend is taking all of the wires off the switch and starting again, double-checking board connections along the way. You should be getting a bypass signal even without power - on the GGG diagram that's the connection from input jack to bottom-left of the switch and then to top-right.
Bringing you yesterday's technology tomorrow.
