Add more chugg to a Big Muff

Depends what board it is I suppose... I just removed them on mine, if it doesn't work, add jumpers.

Don't put jumpers just take the diodes out or interrupt their path. The Jumbo Tonebender (Big Muff style circuit) has no clipping diodes in the second clipping stage so you could try that.

ok sounds good, is there a switch i could use to switch between stock diode/LED/bypassed for one of the clipping stages? coincidently what would one use a 4pdt switch for?

If You're up for a complete build then the IC version of the BM is close to what you're after.
If not-then how about a splitter and small mixer and running something chunky in parallel with your muff.

+1 on changing (mainly reducing) the coupling capacitors, specially the one before the sustain pot.

Also, try bypassing the tonestack.

But the Big Muff in itself isn't very palm-mute friendly, as explained by many posters before me.

what about adding a individual b/m/t controls?  would more tone shaping help?

I have two original big muffs with tone bypass,one transistor, one IC version, neither palmmute any better than any other version.

Sure I could'nt/would'nt use my IC version for a Pantera type riff or anything like that But, it's definately got a much tighter attack on wound strings than the trans.

I would try cranking a boost up in front of the BMP. Really adds chunk.
Even an LPB would do wonders. Wire it up in the same box, just slap
it in front.

I have actually done an experiment with the BMP. I took at Dist+ and omitted the clipping diodes, turned the gain up, and ran it into the BMP. What is does is filter out the low frequencies, resulting in the chug sound you are looking for. It does create more noise, however.
