I need help determining which capacitor series to use in my pedal. I'm building a TS808 clone, and I ordered some sprague orange drops from mouser, but they were freakin huge when I got them - I'm talking bigger than quarter for the 1uF one. I see small bear sells the 715 series, as does mouser.  I apparently bought the type 225P from page 851 on the mouser catalog.  Comparing the 715 and the 225P, they appear to have the same physical dimensions, so I'm sort of at a loss as to what I'm supposed to order.  I'm a Newb....I would greatly appreciate a little direction. I didn't realize the dimensions were in inches....otherwise I wouldn't have ordered these. some assistance on the electrolytics would be nice too if anyone has time.

These are the values I was going to order.

51pF
0.022uF
0.047uF
.1uF
.22uF
1uF
1uF
10uF
47uF
100uF

The ones you ordered are for amps. oops :icon_mad:
you want the Panasonic poly film (here from smallbear http://www.smallbearelec.com/Categories.bok?category=Capacitors%2C+Panasonic+Low+Voltage+Poly+Film)
the topmay will also work the same (http://www.smallbearelec.com/Categories.bok?category=Capacitors%2C+Topmay+Low+Voltage+Poly+Film)
I never bothered with mouser. too overwhelming for me.
For electrolytic just make sure to get radial not axial so it will fit a standard layout.

Look for the voltage ratings, the smaller it is the smaller will be your cap. You can go as low as 25V ratings.
The boxed plastic films are popular.
And buy electrolyics for the highier capacitances values...
You can start with what is in the wiki:

Thanks for the head's up. Guess I have a head start on a future amp project ! hehe.  I have the Xicon's on the way now.
Thanks again for the help. This is an awesome hobbyist community - glad I found this board.

Someday, you will need an ANIMAL CAP.  One that takes high voltage.  And you won't have to wait for an order to come, since you have some already!!!

I keep my "power products" in a rubbermaid container separate from the low power stuff....it's my go-to box for amps etc.  Slowly I add to it (different cap/resistor values at 2W, 5W and so on).   It's been a life saver for amp mods and repairs.

Suddenly having trouble finding a good supply of caps.  It's not that there aren't a lot of caps out there on Mouser, it's that I'm picky...

I would like box caps that are
Not Ceramic (Film)
10% or Better Tolerance
~50V-63V (100V often affect size and width in particular)
Have long leads for breadboarding and perfboarding (like the ECQ-B. ECQ-V, etc)
Consistently Sized - 5mm spacing, 2.5mm or smaller in width, at least up to .1uF

I realize that's a tall order these days.

I'm cool with the Panasonics but they seem to be going the way of the dinosaur, or at least Mouser and Digikey no longer have a wide range. And their size/width is not consistent anyway.

Plenty of box caps on mouser, but finding a brand and 'series' with these specs, especially long leads, has not been simple for me, an amateur...

The AVX reccomended replacements--skycaps and Ceralam are out there, but they are multilayer ceramic.

The Smallbear/Topmay TCM07 are a brainless choice and probably how I'll go other than their inconsistent size and width, which seems totally random. There isn't even a datasheet that I can find out their size, for when I do layouts away from my workbench at home.

I'm all ears if anyone has a comprehensive brand/series of film box caps with all of the above specs on Mouser currently (seems to change regularly).  Otherwise I guess I'll deal with the Topmays.
Breadboard it!

Check out these mouser part numbers:
80-R82DC3150AA60K
80-R82DC4100DQ60J
I've gotten both of these values recently and they are what you are asking for.  The long leads were a welcome surprise (and they seem to be the exact same caps that are in my old MXR 6 band EQ).  I'm thinking of making this series my new go-to caps.  The catalog only lists a few values, but I believe there are many more available if download the datasheet and do a search for individual part numbers.

Actually, a word of warning: the 1uf caps are the only ones I got from mouser.  The .15ufs I got from Futurlec.  They had long leads, but I see that Mouser doesn't stock the ammo pack style in every value.  I don't know if the non-ammo pack ones will have those long leads.

You should check out what they have at Newark. Looking through my caps, it looks like all of the ones that meet your criteria have item numbers that start with 94M88, so search on that, choose capacitors, and see what they have. They probably have even more if you browse their catalog.
