I used the original schematic from Major Surgeon to built this pedal. I am not uploading any picture of the schematic cause i don't know if i am allowed. It is the Dr.Boogie pedal... a mesa boogie dual rectifier lead channel emulator circuit. The first time i built it couldn't work neither the second time... Could anyone help ?

Angelo777

Hi,

I built the Dr.Boogie last night... I cannot get it to work ! So i rebuilt it again! Still nothing... :(
Please help!

Post some closeup pictures of the insides so the pros here (not me :P) can tell you what went wrong. They need to see what's going on.

Angelo777

I'll try to upload some pictures of the project when i find out how to do it :P

Thank you :D Can you tell me how i upload the photos i have in here ?

sign up an account with www.photobucket.com and upload pictures to it, then post the links to those pics here.

Ok here are all the photos i took with my cell phone... If you need more please tell me ..  ;)

Angelo777

ermm.... So here are the photos ... I must tell you that i don't have a multimeter right now cause the multimeter i had is destroyed ( I was building a voltage multiplier which worked finally , but i couldn't say the same for my multimeter :P ).

Does it matter if the trims are in full or zero ohms when you plug the power on ?

And one more thing... I didn't put a True bypass switch ( there is no switch in this circuit ) . I built a passive circuit-system so when i turn the power on i got sound from the circuit directly.

One thing I do know from when I built mine is if the trims are at full or zero it ain't gonna work. Leave them around the middle until you hear sound, and then you can tweak it until it sounds good to you.

Angelo777

Yeah i did that... i actually put all the pots and trims in the middle before i power it up... Any other thoughts ?

I've built this using the original circuit design.  The layout you used isn't one that I recognize.  Or did you build it following the schematic?  Which would be fine.   Have you read the "What to do when it doesn't work" thread?  It's good that you don't have a bypass yet.  You can always add that later. Also using an audio probe might help you track this problem down.   Buy another cheap multimeter.  Building any circuit without one is going to make the debugging a headache for you.

Thanks for the reply. I did built the pedal following the schematic. I have a feeling that i put the trims in zero and i possibly burned all the J201...

Angelo777

Ghostsauce,

you said that you told John Lyons to etch your pcb . How much it costed you +shipping ?

Thanks

Angelo777

oldrocker,

can you tell me if you can measure the trims resistance so i put fixed resistors instead of trims ? I think that the problem is in the trims .

John was great, I think he only charged me something like $15.. can't remember.  Anyway it's worth twice that because he does a fantastic job.  Send him a pm

Angelo777

For those who have built the Dr.Boogey and it is working and they have placed the trims in a certain resistance-position ( since they work as potensiometers ) .... Please someone tell me how many ohms are every single trim .... for example ( trim1=50K , trim2=70K etc etc ) so i can at least get it to work !!!  :-\

Will do!!!  ;D

Thanks!

One thing is the trim pots no matter where they're set will not burn up your j201's.  The sound may not work or sound good but it won't destroy them.  Yes if your new to pedal building on perf the Dr. B would IMHO be too hard.  A ready made PCB would be the way to go.

Well, I have built around 120 pedals ... so I'm not exactly new in building on perf....  I am mostly new in building on perf without multimeter   :P
