Hi.

I was just wondering and thinking about building some kind of station, that consists of a lot of different Boosters and Overdrives. Just for experimenting and just to mess around with it.
Is there some kind of universal layout for boosters or Overdrives? I mean, i would like to put together very simple boosters, with only volume control (max 2 controls) and but it all in a one big box. But I would like to keep it as simple as its possible.
I didn't find any so called" universal layouts".
The only thing I can come up with at the moment, is veroboard and grab as many solutions as I dare from here http://diy-fever.com/old/index.php?project=layouts

Has anyone done such a thing before?
Any suggestions, how to keep the costs low and to be effective while building it?

I've heard of this idea, but haven't seen it implemented, at least not in an economic, cost-effective way.  I'd think you'd have to build a bunch of circuit boards, put them in a large enough enclosure, and true-bypass switch each one in and out.  You can add/remove diodes on switches, thereby creating distortion/OD, depending on their location (feedback loop vs. output, all that).

As for 'universal layout', well, take a look at opamp boosts, OD's, and those that are transistor based.  Many of them are VERY similar, and have the same 'core' with a cap tacked on here or there, or different resistors.  You could use that as a starting point...

Thanks for the info!
I will have a look.
But more that I think about the whole idea, the more I think about it, is it actually a good and effective idea? I am a bit afraid that I build 10 different boosters and end up using only 3 of them.
So for now, I ll put as much schematics on my projectboard and then I ll sort out what I want and don't want.

What I went thru personally was that I found 1 to 3 boosters that I really liked, and a bunch I wasn't overly impressed with.  So I use those boosters all the time, and the others collect dust!   I wouldn't want them in 1 pedal.  Having them separate allows me to place them in other locations in the signal chain, to lend 1 out to a buddy who had something break at a gig, etc.   These are things we have to consider  :o)

Yes. Thats the thing I am afraid of also.
So I think I will loose to idea and make my experiments on my project board and take what I like and so on. Thank you!
