I was wondering if anyone here could give me a more dense explanation of how an orange squeezer works, like what particular components do. (JFETS and the JRC4558D).

I do know the theory behind the components, but I just get a little hazy when seeing how the circuit functions the way it does

I know what a compressor does, but I am trying to learn the basics of a compression circuit.

if the is not too confusing! :) I would appreciate if anyone could share some insight.

I read somewhere that there's a monkey inside the pedal who doesn't like loud noises, so when the signal gets loud he turns it down, when it gets quiet he turns it back up. There may be more to it than that, but it seems logical enough to me.

Yes well I know about the monkey in the circuit and how it functions but I want to see if someone can explain things further like the stages of the compressor.

I read on wiki... :-\ that there are two basic designs of compressors.  One is a feed-forward, and the other is a feedback design comprised of an amplifier and a control circuit.

Here are some good posts I had bookmarked about the Orange Squeezer. It should get you started. :)

If you're not doing it for yourself, it's not DIY. ;)

I have found that when I have questions like that, GEO is the first place I look, there is so much info there it's staggering!  I've gotten a great part of my (limited) knowledge from that site.
