Did you buy the MN3005 from Hong Kong via Ebay? Some of those are re-labelled MN3007!

Are you sure?
The sound comes from the player, not the equipment. You can get a wonderfully heavy guitar tone with a Telecaster and a Twin Reverb...

Maybe it's a dumb question, and I do not wish to offend by underestimating your chops, but is there any chance you have measured either the clock rate or delay time wrong?  I ask, because if you simply doubled 150msec, and factored in the usual component tolerance issues, 300msec delay is not far off from what one would expect from a well-functioning Aqua-Puss.

No offence taken at all Mark and a perfectly reasonable question.  Given the the good reputation of the supplier, I was thinking it's at least a 50/50 proposition that I've done some thing wrong.

At maximum delay time I measured the clock frequency at pins 2 and 6 on the MN3005 using my DMM.  At once stage I dimed the clock trim just to see how much delay time I could coax out of it.  The repeats sounded severely distored, but I just got 300ms.  As for measuring delay times, I just matched the repeats by ear with a digital multi-effect unit which shows the delay time.

We've been working on this same problem for a group buy over at FSB (that's basically the reason for all the pics).

First batch was very clearly fakes - didn't work at all.

Second batch would only give a slapback - very short delay.
That's as far as we've gotten..... I know the organizer has gotten other samples since then - but they've either been blatant fakes - or they didn't work/short delay/ relabeled etc.

I just got a full refund from eeedesigner.  Here is what he had to say;

"You are right and we checked this already. No need to return the IC to us. This listing has been removed as well. Rgds."

So where can I get a REAL MN3005?  Small Bear doesn't have any.

million dollar question.

Even UTSource sent out a batch of fakes.....they got burned as well....

For some reason I had it in my head that Cool Audio had these. But a second look show they don't! Damn I bought one of those Aqua boy PCBs. I wasn't thinking it would be that hard to get the chips.

You can build it with the v3205 instead, Soggy. Having built both I can't say that the extra ducats and time needed in sourcing the MN3005 is worth it. I would use the MN3005 if I had it, but wouldn't think twice about the v3205. Steve still has the MN3205, as well, for about $15. While I have not tried the MN3205 with the Aquaboy it will work, AFAIK.

Yeah Dan, I'm very familiar with this since I've got my name down for a few different things in the FSB group buy as well.  I think we're at about 6 months now (and counting) since this little adventure began and still no joy.

+1. @9V I totally agree.
However; w/MN3005 @15V there is a difference.
Try it & see... ;)
