I am in an emergency situation where I managed to fry my BSIAB and will need a good replacement in a matter of hours (gig coming up). I can take the hardware from BSIAB but will need to make a new board.

So, here's what I'm looking for:

- Good solid Marshall distortion (as brown as possible :D)
- Minimum of controls (vol only, can hardwire gain to max)
- Common components (FETs, Opamps, I have loads of hex inverters too)
- All of the above in least components possible
(- Perf layout available to speed up building process)

Will close the suggestion box in half an hour. Thank you. :)

Crunch box is good- i wouldn't hard wire the gain 100%.  Maybe more like 75%.   It has oodles of gain.

The lovetone purple plexi is, well, supposed to sound like a marshall plexi.

Tempting, but I think my last 386 went into an Ugly Face a few days back. :)

Will consider.

Any more suggestions?

[EDIT] Any with an existing perf layout?

[EDIT2] Does not have to be strictly "brown" but just a good solid minimal distortion.

Curious of that one stage 4049, do you have a schematic for that?

yup, a red llama or couple of cmos inverters will make a good job..just add tone, gain, and volume..

other good easy sound is an opamp with leds on the feedback with lots of gain..

No. I used to have one, it was from ETI perhaps, one inverter stage, perhaps a fixed resitor or pot 100k... 1M to taste in feedback fom output to input, caps in ouput and input, perhaps input resitor 10k and volume pot, and there was 9 volt battery but power for 4049 was taken from viper of 10k pot wired on battery, variable power supply
