I was attempting to replace the stock IC with an LM308AH and make a switchable Ruetz mod with a control pot. I think I did all the Ruetz stuff right, although I may not have. Anyhow, when I turn my Rat on now, no sound comes through, and the LM308AH got really hot. I think I may have installed it backwards. If it was too hot to touch when I turned the pedal on, do you think it is fried?

I plan on getting an IC socket when I replace it again, but how do I make sure I have the pinout right? I looked at the diagram for the LM308ah on Beavis Audio Research and seperated 1-4 and 5-8 correctly, so I guess I should just put it in the other way next time? Do those metal can versions even fit in IC sockets? I think I need to read some literature on electronics before I destroy all of my pedals.
