Hey all,
I'm getting ready to take on my first pedal project. God save me. Anyways, I'm particularly new to the electronics world (which is why I'm attacking a pedal before a tube amp) and need some clarification on a few things. Any help would be freakin' great.

First and foremost, I'm not 100% positive which voltage rating I should be purchasing for resistors. I'm building an "un-named" boutique overdrive pedal that calls for:

R1 10k
R2 1M
R3 100k
R4 560 R
R6 10k
R9 1k
etc...

I understand how to read all that, but where I get lost is that Mouser, for instance, asks which voltage rating I need... 250, 300, 500. That's where I get lost. First of all, is it going to matter, and if so, what will the difference in voltage rating do?

Thanks a million, and forgive my ignorance on the projects...

Last question first, The voltage rating tells you the highest peak voltage that the resistor should be subjected to. Which gets to the one before it, all of those voltage ratings are so much higher than anything you'll see in a pedal that you can safely ignore them and select your resistors on other criteria.

We usually use 1/4 watt resistors.
We usually use 16Volt and higher rated capacitors.
We usually use 16mm alpha pots.

There's a ton of info in the wiki on the top of this board.
There's also a lot at www.generalguitargadgets.com.

Hope this helps.

As far as parts, order stuff from right here!!!!
There's a store link at the top of the page!
Also,   www.smallbearelec.com is great!

congrats on diving into the world of DIY ! ..... as far as getting lost in the Mouser world, don't fret - the Mouser catalog is not for the faint of heart  :icon_mrgreen: .... as suggested by others, shopping "in-house" is a fairly painless way of getting to know parts and values .... and don't worry about not knowing stuff .... we all had to start somewhere .... and, IMO, it's a very good idea to start with a pedal build .... the cost is relatively low and there are no lethal voltages to worry about .... ( as long as we're talking about 9V batteries, of course ) .... BTW, you can check a 9V by sticking your tongue on the terminals .... ( seriously )
