Problem with fOXX Tone Machine indicator leds

I have build a fOXX tone machine with a second 3pdt for switching the octave on/off. It works fine but I have a problem with the indicator leds, I can't have both of them light at the same time. When I stomp on one switch the led will light up but the other led will instantantly fade out. Both bypass switching works fine, the problem is only with the indicator leds.
I used the wiring layout from GGG for the switches and the leds. http://www.generalguitargadgets.com/pdf/ggg_ftm_lo_2fsw.pdf
Is there something wrong with this layout? Or can someone tell me how I should wire them in a way that they will be enough current to light both leds at the same time and not too much when only one led will be lit to make sure that it won't burn.
Thanks

Give each LED it's own current limiting resistor instead of sharing one.

Like Ron said you need a separate resistor for each LED for it to work reliably.

The problem is each LED will turn on at a different voltage, say the green is at 1.5volts and the red one is at 1.7 volts. If you just turn on one of them then everything works fine, but if you turn them both on at once the green one pulls the voltage where the 2 LEDs join down to 1.5 volts which isn't enough to turn the red one on.

Thanks for your answers. I tried it and obviously it worked. I don't know why I hadn't figured it out by myself. I probably have relied too much on the wiring layout that for some reasons I tought cannot be wrong.
