Hi,

Short of having a Marshal head (which I don't) is there a good pedal design that would get you close to the Allman Brothers guitar tone? I'm referring specifically to the tones in Blue Sky or SoulShine.

Thanks,
Rut

I love the tones in Soulshine.  I need to keep an eye on this thread for suggestions.

It's a very simple formula:

Start with the most critical component

NOS/Vintage parts are sadly impossible to find now so you can substitute a modern replacement...

Add a heavy dose of...

And finally combine with tube distortion to taste...

Can I just glue these pictures to an empty box with a switch and instantly have that tone?   ;D ;D

haha.. quite possibly...
In all seriousness, have a listen to some clips of Aaron's Shaka Braddah III circuit. I think combining that with some careful EQ adjustments (the soulshine sound seems to have accentuated mids and reduced highs, for example) You might get close. If you don't run it full-bore then the SBIII has a nice bluesy distortion sound that is very tube-like (to my ears).

Aaron's Clip: http://www.diystompboxes.com/pedals/sounds/sb3AMP.mp3 (this has higher gain than you may need)
Builder's clips: http://www.radmer.dk/diy/shaka.htm  This guys's clips are mono recordings (left channel) but the MP3 encoding has left some nasty artifacts on the right channel. Either pan your sound card all the way to the left or use half a set of headphones :)

I've done my own PCB layout for this circuit but haven't built it yet so I can't comment on it directly, but the sound clips seem promising.
