Im going to breadboard Gus's Fuzz Face and was just wondering if the 5k resistor was a pot or trimpot.

How do wire it?

John Lyons

Yes.  ;D

Whatever you want. I'd include it as a panel pot to adjust
for gated or smoother sounds.

Do I have to tie any pins together or just leg 3 to circuit and leg 1 to ground.

Lugs 1 and 3 of a pot is a fixed resistance [the value of the pots resistive wafer -tolerance].
Lug 2 to any outside lug is a variable resistor [max value is the pot wafer value, minimum value is 0.0R with a good pot, connected.
Lug 2 to the other outside lug is also a VR.
When three lugs are used the 2 x VR becomes whats called a resistive divider, each side is X resistance and they always add to the wafer value.
  20/80
  50/50
  60/40
  31/69
With a linear pot, both sides change resistance at the same rate [the wafer is 'flat', the line on a graph would be straight-diagonal from bottom left to top-right corner, with audio/analog taper pot it's a 'curve, the taper is not at all linear.
'Analog, so all the infinite-between values.
See 'secret life of pots' at GEO to explain about tapers and analog taper = audio taper.
Convention creates following, following creates convention.

Got it work, thanks for the info.

This is a great sounding silicon fuzz.

Yes very good fuzz, the bias control is very responsive in dialing sound like gated or smooth fuzz sound. My first DIY complete build with casing. The sound of this built always remind me of Eric Johnson.

my numba one fave for recommending a first  fuzz build for beginners. after the easy face of course :icon_cool: :o

gus' recipe is spot on.
my life is a tribute to the the great men and women who held this country together when the world was in trouble. my debt cannot be repaid, but i will do my best.
