i need to isolate the solder side of my circuit and i was wondering if normal wax could be used for that?

or maybe if there is a product for that  and someone knows about it i'll appreciate the info

I just used some liquid tape I picked up a while back. I think wax may melt too easily.

I used apiece of cardboard when let a potential customer test fabulous sounding fuzz. He said it was very very very good box of joy but he returned it soon with non smiling face and told he somehow broke it. Later I opened the hood and the @#$%in Cardboard Piece had fallen loose and pcb was short circuiting to the alum case.

That's why you want your offboard wiring as long as physically possible: all that wire will fill up the space and hold the cardboard in place.

Duct tape to the rescue!  Put it on any conductive part of the chassis and also on the bottom of the board.  It has the advantage that if you need to fix the board, you can take it off.  It does not have as much of an effect on solder removal / reapplication as wax or liquid tape.

Yeah velcro is nonconductive but is it heat resistant? We got a new car (I have to use at work) some time ago and had to fix some cheap velcro tape assemblies after first sunny days. We got another new car and it had some velcro tape too and we need to fix it too. You may not think this is a serious problem but I live in north not so warm and we use the car for important purposes.

My mother had a dark red wax stuff in the 60´s or 70´s, it was used to seal bottles and cans, perhaps such stuff is good enough

I'm adding two on-board circuit on my guitar(telecaster) and the only place i found was the neck pickup cable routing so the space is limited, since the cavity needs to be grounded i am afraid it will short, that is why i asked about the wax.

the duct tape seems like a good idea but i will like to try the carbonite ;D

Some is, some isn't. This depends on the adhesive put on the back of the velcro.

I suspect you could say the same about every stick-on adhesive product. Wax, too.  :icon_biggrin:

yep.. standoffs........if you made ya pcb big enough in the first place of course.... :icon_rolleyes:

anyone know of anything that can be a stand off that might just clip to the edges of a pcb?...

that'd be handy....

2 little double-sided tape pads stuck to the underside of the pcb hold it away from the case and keep it secure - but removable

Craft foam.
Easy to cut, easy to form and glues down nicely with rubber cement or double-sided tape.
Comes in many different thicknesses, sizes and colors.
You can even use it on the bottom of your pedal for cheap grip.

I like the Velcro and double sided tape ideas. Of course the best way is standoffs, but I almost never do things the best way. Gotta get me some of those standoffs! Who know I might even use em some day. Man, I gotta start making my pedal insides look like some of you guys do, all perfect n such. Most of mine look as if I put them together in my sleep! Oh well, at least they work... For now anyway.

Futurlec has some good aluminum hex standoffs, they come in packs of 12 along with 24 screws (for top and bottom). $1.90 for a pack, so thats like 15 cents for each standoff+screws. I got a couple packs on my last order from them.

I use foam when I am feeling cheap, however. I have tried to move away from doing that... PCB mount/standoffs for me now.
