Hey I just noticed Pedal Parts Plus started carrying the Hammond 1590B enclosure. They always had other Hammond boxes but not this popular one until recently I suppose? You can get it in unfinished aluminum or a powder coated paint job. I wish PPP also offered a polished 1590B too. Nice colors available though. At least this cuts out also having to order from Newark.

Anyways I can't place an order yet because some of the other critical parts I need (16mm right angle mount pots) are currently out of stock at Small Bear to get everything I'd need to build myself a backup copy of my clone plus for a another project I'm working on. Maybe when I get back from an upcoming vacation SB will be stocked up again. They do offer a Zvex licensed Taiwanese B sized box the same dimensions as the 1590B except for having a more rounded off shape like an MXR pedal. I'd probably have to resize my etched top panel design so it doesn't overlap the rounded edges when I stick it on. Does anyone with a Zvex box this size know the actual dimensions of the top flat surface before the rounded edges start?

If you don't have a need for a genuine Hammond box, they have their 1590b clone available polished:

Is there a datasheet on that 1290 box? I need scale drawings of all exterior and interior dimensions preferably in PDF format to make sure my 1590B based stuff fits everywhere without any redesign if possible.

I couldn't find it with a quick google, but the product code is "1290ns" and it's made by New Sensor - you may be able to find something with a search.

I'm looking back at old posts I made when first deciding on what box to go with. This poster said that the screws used in the 1290ns strip easliy?

This is the same size as the ZVex boxes sold by small bear. But the Small Bear box has much better screws and threads. If you've built anything with the 1290NS boxes you will note the screws are cheap and then tend to strip easily. The threads are fine and prone to cross threading. The small bear boxes on the other hand have slightly larger screws that are better quality. The head fits a larger screw driver so they are less prone to becoming stripped. The threads are courser and less prone to becoming cross threaded. If you have to take the back off the box more than once or twice you will appreciate the better screws.

Maybe I could go with either the satin black powder coated or unfinished 1590B. If I manually polished the bare one I'd only have to do the sides since my etched aluminum panel covers the top. I could probably leave the bottom lid plain for a two tone texture effect. How hard is it to polish aluminum by hand?
