hey there hope theres somebody here to give me a hand.

ive never built a pedal before and i recently bought a clone of the circuit board of a fuzz face and it came with all this stuff, i have BC109 C transistors and all the parts but...

i have some questions....

also how can i add an LED and an input for a power supply??

Schappy

Check tonepad.com or general guitar gadgets for wiring diagrams of footswitches and led.

Ground everything to input jack.

where did you get this kit from, they should provide some sort of layout to show you where everything goes.  like the last post mentioned, look at General Guitar Gadets website for fuzz face layouts.  They also have a section where they show how to wire pedal with various switches and in various ways.

heres one for high gain pedals with a 3pdt footswitch, led, and 2 types of power inputs.

Hopes this helps out

i have this

also can you help me identify these on that circuit board?

board grounds
input
9v+
output

thanks a lot.

Did it come WITH the transistors? Your original post (and the "instructions" sheet) makes me think it did not. If you are just using whatever transistors (even if they are the "correct" part numbers) chances are it will not be biased correctly. Hopefully the transistors are tested and the resistors you got are the correct values for those exact transistors.

thanks for the info man!!! well i bought a couple of BC109 C off ebay... are they good?

mhartington

where did you get these instructions, it would help if they were visually clearer. The picture is fuzzy

phector2004

oh no...

if he's "kind" enough to make a "mojo" kit, he should at least provide the appropriate transistors. The carbon comp resistors he's giving you won't necessarily work with your transistors. Chances are they wont, but if they do, lucky you. Just a heads up, seeing how I underestimated the importance of proper transistor bias when I first started.

mhartington

i found this layout, labled whats whats in the circuit. If you're using a 3dpt foot switch, use a combination of this and the link i sent you earlier. Good luck

teddypicker15

thanks a lot man
it says germanium NKT275 at the bottom and i have BC109 C ...will it work with my transistors?

mhartington

hmh, not sure on that, i would try to socket you transistors so you can try different ones out. If anything, you would just need to adjust the biasing

teddypicker15

and how do you do the "socketing" and the "biasing".. sorry if its a dumb question but im new to all this

mhartington

ha no worries, i wish i had help when I was in your place before.  Sockets are used so you can use a transistor in a circuit without soldering them to the board.

http://www.smallbearelec.com/Detail.bok?no=101

you solder the socket to the board and then insert the transistor. It clips it in and makes the connection to the circuit. This is good in case you want to try different transistors. In your case, you could try the ones you have on hand, and if they don't work, try different ones. Its all about how the pedal sounds to you.

As for biasing this circuit, I am not sure how you would go about doing that. Most circuits have a trim pot to adjust the current. I would run this pedal off an adapter.

hope this helps, good luck

teddypicker15

woow man thats very good to know.. another quistion... haha sorry

in the picture you sent me (the first one) connected to the led theres a R1 (i suupose thats a resistor)...which one should i buy

mhartington

yes its a resistor. I limits the voltage to the LED so it doesnt burn out. If you're running this pedal off of 9volts, a 1k resistor should do fine, just make sure the solder connection between the led and resistor is good.

thanks a lot man

yes, but you will need to swap the red and black wires of your power supply and put in the electrolytics the other way round.

teddypicker15

shit man i feel like an idiot with all these new terms

whats electrolytics?

deadastronaut

what no switch,enclosure, jacks, led etc...!!!!!!!!!!....hmmmmm..... :icon_eek:

is it tip positive..? if so 'dont'use a wall wart with other effects with it ok.........

most pedal are tip negative...bear this in mind............

good luck rob.
