Ohm's Law - much like Coles Law, but with less cabbage...

I used to use a center punch for starting jack and switch holes before drilling. But several times, the hole would be just slightly out of  position.
I switched to using an extremely fine tipped carbide cutter with the dremel, instead of a center punch. Since then, every hole is drilled exactly where I want it.
Hope this helps.

Just press to %^&* and release the spring mechanism.

just press to swear? that's not much of a testemonial.

I think he meant "Just press to cock..." There is a "%^&*-blocker" on the site.

Sounds like some type of contraception. ;)

BTW- These are great for shattering car windows.  Keep one handy in your car for rescuing a child locked inside a hot parked car or the next time you drive off of a pier.

Been trying my next etch, but still not real tight, although it looks good enough, but I have to do some more testing before I get the clean etches I see around these pages

It's a D*A*M Meathead clone, and as that is a Fuzzface clone with one knob it wasn't a big leap to make the towards Mad Cyclops

I etched the back with a 15% Caustic soda solution, but that ate through the nail polish and eventually also loosened the toner
For the front I heated up the ferric Chloride in the Microwave and that speeded up the etching process big time, but the toner didn't transfer as well as it has previously done, maybe I need a better iron or have to sand the enclosure a bit further than the 120 grain belt sanding...
The cut through the cyclops heads should have been a sign telling me the box was not really prepared enough...
It's a deeper etch than any before so there is progress and it's still fun to do though, so on to new boxes!

Yep pink nail varnish, the cheapest I could find  :icon_wink:

pastiche

First go at an etch.
Used glossy magazine paper and 33% HCl 50/50 with water. Etched ok til i agitated it at the end and it ate thru a little bit if the toner.
The good wife hand painted it as I didn't etch it deep enough to spray and sand. I like the textured look, even if it wasn't the original plan.

Any guesses what this one will be a clone of?

guitarmageddon

^I dig textured finishes too. 8)

Happy Newd Year Gents.

Here's my first build of 2014- the 'Freaky Fuzz.'

Derived from the Ge FY-2, tuned the bias for my Russian trannies, added switchable output caps and a polarity inverter IC for -9vDC.

Etch, as usual, is printer toner, photo paper and Hcl & peroxide.

No experience with controlled rusting, but I have some ideas. You'll need a steel enclosure. Oxidized aluminum is whitish, powdery, and ugly.

This is not accurate. You can get great results with standard stomp boxes. Many are not pure aluminium and they will rust just fine with water and air in a few minutes to hours. You will find the results are not entirely predictable but you can get copper to red to black depending on the materials used in the box.

Jdansti

True- I didn't think about the boxes being alloys, but I'd be surprised to see a Hammond enclosure that oxidizes the way a hunk of carbon steel does.
