Great stuff! Clean work as always man, looks awesome! Sounds cool in the vid as well, could no doubt bust out many Atomic Bitchwax or Monster Magnet riffs with that! :)

@deadastronaut, very nice!

guitarmageddon

^Very cool Rob!
I can pick one of your builds a mile away. 8)

Here's a Rangemaster in a wedge enclosure (cut down 125B)

@ Deadastronaut: Okay, NOW I see what you mean about the coincidence!
Wow, beautiful etching and brush work, great layout design, and sounds great to boot.
I still struggle to get small print and fine lines to come through when etching, so I am blown away by your etching precision...

If you don't mind my asking, are you a photo paper guy or pnp blue?
Ferric Chloride or something else ?

Guitarmageddon uses Photo paper with great results, but the only time I tried it, it was a total FUBAR disaster.

deadastronaut

@guitarmaggedon....cheers man.

lovely rangemaster P TO P as well ....cool. 8)

@hy: cheers man, yep, i use glossy photo/ferric too...

if your image isn't sharp when you have ironed it...then redo the image.

i find if i stretch a font , even in inkscape it will not print sharply, though the image on screen is.... ;)

Hey Rob, save it in inkscape as a pdf and it will be sharp again

deadastronaut

^ really....i'll have to try that...i just wondered why it was being weird...?

what is happening to it then?...when resized etc..?

cheers maik. 8)

Booty Thief ( Madbean Kingslayer)

I have an affinity for pedals (and guitars) that look like they are played hard, loved - you know, pieces that say, "do what you want with me, I'm a reliable tone machine."

This is a great example!

CHAD

guitarmageddon

Thanks gents.

Rob, the font is called Postoffice.
@Chad- thanks Man! I like the rustic look too.

-If re-sizing makes your font not sharp, then that means its has somehow gotten rasterized. If kept in the vector format, you can literally enlarge it to the size of a billboard and it will still be razor sharp. That's the beauty of vector graphics.
That's what is throwing me, I am very careful to keep all type and images in vector format, and it looks sharp when I have finished the trasnfer, but small font and lines ( like those on your Space Patrol Fuzz) are often broken or jagged.

-Actually that's not quite completely true. If it was originally a vector image, and he rasterized and saved it, saving it again as a raster (PDF)
image won't  undue the damage that was already done earlier by previously rasterizing the original.  Once its pixelated, re-converting it to a vector image will stop additional degradation, but can't undue what's already been done.

Perrow

I think what they're saying is that Inkscape messes up when saving to bitmap (excessive jaggedness) but not when saving to pdf. The wonderful world of Inkscape ::) Don't get me wrong, I love it, but it's far from perfect.

Yes, Perrow is right.

Yesterday I sucked on this

The water for the acid was too hot, so the acid was too strong. Redo it, damn!

I see. I use Illustrator which, by default saves images as vector files. I have never used Inkscape.

See, that's a good example of what I mean, The small lined details there are more solid than on my transfers, so I am definitely still doing something wrong...

Perhaps that is what I am doing wrong. I fill a pitcher with hot water from the tap, and put the bottle of etchant in it for 10-15 minutes. Is there a specific recommended temperature for ferric chloride?

endorphin

If I remember correctly my bottle Ferric Chloride by MG Chemicals, says not to exceed 135° Fahrenheit or 50° Celsius. I have an infrared thermometer I use to monitor my temperatures. If you get close to 135° the acid etches fast but a little strong, eats through your graphics where you don't want it. Gets really frothy too.
60% of the time it works everytime...

Thanks for that info. If that's the case, them etchant temperature is likely not teh cause, since I just run hot water from the tap to put the etchant in. I haven't put a thermometer to it, but I don't see how that water could be anywhere close to 135 degrees...

Maik

My problem was that the acid was about 30°C. HCI should have 20° or it gets stronger. It was realy a cooking thing, about one minute to eath uncontroleble :icon_redface:
