cool rat engraving man...came out great 8)

love the cat too..sleek look to it.. 8)

when i was in spain i kept saying 'pobra gato'  meaning 'poor cat'  meaning

i had escaped our annoying cat for 2 weeks... ;D

Thanks, I pulled my commercial RAT apart last year and it fell apart in my hands. I was pretty angry at what the internals were compared to the legacy I had been sold into. Terrible internal build quality etc. Pretty ugly. So, I fought back, made my own replacement and called it El Gato because cats eat rats. Except it is really more like a TS but I didn't care by then, but it's where the kitty came from.  Then someone wanted one, then someone else, now I'm stuck building them LOL.  :icon_eek:

^That and I had a distortion with a built in notch filter around 1981, I could have sworn it was called El Gato but have never found reference to it since. Would love to find that original schemo/name.

A friend of mine wanted a Wooly Mammoth, so I did a new layout with onboard pots and jacks and etched this somewhat steam-punkish enclosure. Turned out he even liked the sound of it.

Of course! (But why?)
But be warned: It is not very elegant. I had this polystyrene caps lying around and wanted to put them to good use. But, as so often when layouting I didn't believe in my own measurements and placed one of them too close to the jack. So I had to fiddle this giant unhappy looking blue film cap in where a flashy axial silvery should be. I re-designed it since then. So if somebody prefers this one over the very nice and small madbean layout, I'll happily share it.

When i do a layout, before i etch the board i print out the pcb and use it to populate it on top of a piece of styrofoam with the components i'll be using.  Quickly shows where revisiona are necessary. Don't plug in static sensitive parts.

Dave, you have some of the greatest ideas. I remember all of yours from the "shop tools and tips" thread a while back and all of your tricks were brilliant.

That's a great idea. If I wasn't me I'd probably do it just this way.

bluebunny

+1  Yep, great idea.  If you do have static-sensitive parts, wrap the polystyrene in aluminium foil?

definitely like the woolgain.

here's a one of my latest builds. it's a Ge Fuzzface with an inverter, and a few special changes. i present to you the burning beard. i've got russian gt402v's in it, it can go from wall of fuzz wooly, to smooth and clear, and cleans up nicely with the volume on my guitar. the bias control is goes from around 4.5v to about 7v so it doesn't get starved and glitchy, i haven't found a setting i didn't like so far.

it's hard to see, but the paint is fairly unique. it's sort of a black cherry metallic, that i came up with mixing a few paints and using a tinted clear. i sanded away some of the tinted clear around the tips of the flames on the beard to give it that on fire look when the light hits it.

Still not technically etching, but this is definitely a case where I wish I had used my caustic soda instead of my CNC machine. Engraving the outlines of pictures is a piece of cake and usually takes 20-30 minutes, but filling things in on pictures takes FOREVER. So this thing isn't done yet, and won't be for another few hours :icon_evil: I promise I'll post pictures when it is, but this is just a teaser for now :P

OoooOoooo That looks awesome! Yeah man pocket engraving takes a while compared to profile. You can get different tooling patterns if you specify raster cut direction, vcarve lets you select climb or conventional and set the raster angle, also weather or not it should do a profile pass first or last to clean up the edges. I find a lot of text looks better as a pocket especially when doing small text with a vbit.

That looks so good! Can't wait to see the final!
