Great idea, Ron!      This is veering seriously off-topic, but it's very entertaining!

Then you fill the water tank in the iron with etchant and after the toner is on good and solid, hit steam and get an instant etch.    It would not be a good idea to fill your wife's iron with ferric chloride, so get your own.

Actually, looking at those HYUUUGE aloominum knobs, does anyone ever etch their knobs?  E.g. a big fat "V", or whole words, or whatever...

I think another important factor is the graphic format of the design, I use Adobe Illustrator so all my designs are vector based which in general gives sharper lines than using things like bitmaps/rasterised graphics.

I'm such a putz....I used ms paint like we were still in '30's or something.....

what are you using to screw the pedal to your board ?.. picture frame brackets?.

My guess is its a lug that would normally be used for attaching a wire to a screw.  One hole is attached to the pedal's screw and the other to the board. Great idea!

Aye those do a good job! I used to use either this method or cable ties until I was happy with the setup and then get a new piece of plywood and bolt the pedals straight to it. I hate velcro!

Does anyone have any tips on efficiently sanding down enclosures to prep for etching. I tried it by hand, but it really aggravated the C.T. (typing all day, playing guitar all evening and sanding for hours don't mix)
I've got an old palm sander but it's trying to round off the corners and isn't sanding the center of the surface - maybe I just need a new one without a wornout pad.
Or do you think an orbital sander would work better?

Or a detail sander?

Or would something like a buffer/polisher work? (with the sanding attachements of course)

if you want the brushed ally look, then sand with a block in one direction back n forth..

orbital sanders will go in circles giving an interesting, but not brushed look..

or try a belt sander..
