3pdt Install for Boss CS-3

I have a boss CS-3 Compressor Sustainer pedal and the foot switch stopped working.  I want to wire it with a 3pdt true bypass.  My intent is to get the switch working, then install the mod kit I purchased and finish by re-housing it in a new enclosure.

The question is how to replace/install the switch?  I read somewhere (I think in this forum )that you can bypass the existing switch and just install the 3pdt around the circuitry?  If I understand this correctly, I should be able to just remove the existing switch from the loop and just connect the two wires which would leave it in an 'on' position?  Or is that just too simple?

Then, with regard to the 3pdt;  Would it be pretty straight forward that I'd just connect the appropriate contacts to the in, the out, send, and return?  What would the ground get attached to in this case?

Any help or advice would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Here's a couple of options to the mechanical 3PDT switch that you might be interested in:

Either one will do away with the big ugly switch sticking out of the top of your pedal!

I appreciate the input, but...  I'm really hoping to use a 3pdt.  Not because it's better or anything but because it's what I have.  Also, the switch in my existing pedal doesn't work and has to be replaced anyway and I've already purchased a new housing, as weel as a mod kit so I was planning re-housing it anyway.  Thanks though ~ if I decide to add TB to any of my other Boss pedals I now have another option!

Installed the mod kit today, successfully it appears, and now I just have to get this figured out.  Maybe I'll just have to get another boss switch and just leave it as it is.  Really thought it would just be fun to rehouse it in a new enclosure with a 3pdt...

Keep it simple.   http://www.smallbearelec.com/Detail.bok?no=36

You are probably right and that's pretty inexpensive...  Thanks for the advice!

So... by simply swapping out the boss switches for that smk from smallbear, wiring it the same, it'll net us a true bypass?  I've got a few boss pedals on my board that I really want to rig up

Don't quote me here but I think thatSs just a direct replacement and won't add true bypass. Of course I'm just making an assumption because I didn't read the description for that part...

Boss pedals use fets to switch the effect on/off, I don't have a diagram but you only need to find the 2 fets in the schematic and remove them. the one on the input should be replaced with a link so the effect is on. then you can wire in a 3pdt switch to do true bypass. This is just a quick explantion of course, first thing to do is get a boss schematic of the cs3 and work from there.

Hey. How about that. Somebody reads geofex.

From 1/11/02, "Computer Controlled Pancake"
From the picture of the PCB, it looks to be the same or nearly the same circuit. Just no pancake.

And another flower blooms.

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.

Well thanks again for all the input!  After looking into this and thinking things out I've decided to just replace the boss switch and keep the pedal in it's original case.  I was just thinking it would be a fun project to place it in a new housing, but the more I thought about it the more I've realized that there's no good reason for it.  As far as the bypass, I'm not actually anticipating the use of the pedal in my regular rig, i.e. if I have it plugged in it will be in use and if I'm not using it I won't be plugging it in.

Now I just have to get that order through to Small Bear...
