UPDATE:...JULY. 2010....I HAVE NOW BUILT 4 VERSIONS...............

i have just built a homemade pcb 'brazilian' 'big louis' version of the 'krank dm' , and it is a totally different layout...

and this b*****d is doing the same thing as the sounclip posted ,and i did ages ago....................

its giving out a low random filter type thing when volume on guitar is backed off...............ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

any more ideas on what could be doing this?....ive built 4 different versions, and its just bugging, because its a good distortion.

i bet its nice amped....!..anyone had similar sh*t to me...

if any of you have built this (any version) could you please try it with your gain full on, and turn your guitar down half-ish..then let it ring till it totally dies ...because you never hear them clips.......

see/hear clip below..i just want to know if this is an inherent problem or not.........it might save a lot of future threads!

sorry for the rant...but arghhhhhhhhh ...cheers guys rob.

that's it im hitting my whisky.......

edit: im gonna post a new clip soon of the different version..just to clarify.

the krank DM (and its variations) is very prone to catch RF when the guitar volume is backed off...
i get a nice AM radio with it.. i don´t mind because i ussually play with some volume on the guitar :P..

try using a lpf at the input to minimize RF..

cheers daniel, i think i'll just give up on the krank then,...shame...

let this be a warning to anyone who wants to build this...DONT BOTHER!. :icon_evil:

High Rob.. i made a the rank from that layout too.. my problem is the decaying notes and not very versatile drive knob . . and cant really clean using guitar volume . .  my solution was adding 220 ohms to 5k resistor between pin 1 and 8 i cut the connections then add the 390ohms resistor "dont have 220ohms at this time . . BUT it lowered the gain  :( BUT!! it become very versatile heheh.. by the way lm386 produce good sounding distortion :D

ok, i gaveup on the krank after building/scrapping around 4 variations....the 386 is great for distortion...its just not really great at sustain and tailing off....

i wouldnt compromise on the gain situation either... :icon_twisted: \m/   \m/..... :icon_wink:

dont give up :D try what i did rob.. about pin 1 and 8 cut it and put 220 ohms resistor and you will gain SUSTAIN and most wonderful thing is boost it with ts808 or what ever booster you have and BOOM its sounded very good :D.. i did my experiment in pin 1 and 8 buy putting 5k linear pot and turn it in sweet spot to erase the decay :D :icon_twisted:

HI...
I want to build the distortus maximus.Has anyone the schematic that it works??i dont have experience to fix if the pedal has any problem like yours...
thnks

askwho69

well the schematic is lying around the thread just click on search :D well my solution of the problem can sacrifice the high gain of the pedal. try the 2 knobs distortion collaboration by Deadastronaut and i like it so much just add booster for more gain . .

i found the burning crunch layout...its ok this??

brazilian' 'big louis layout error
mid and bass pots were inverted.Mid is 25k and bass should be 1M. maybe this is the one causing the problem
