Hi! I'd like to connect my guitar to some overdrive stompbox, then into headphones, but with some nice speaker simulator.

Does all typical speaker simulators work with headphones without modding?
I'm looking for a farily simple speaker simulator project.

Preferably something in the vintage Rola territory...

Do a search on here for "cabinet sim" or "cabinet simulator".
For headphones, you'll need a small amplifier to get the output up to headphone levels, as most stompboxes are line-level output devices.
A basic LM386 circuit ought to do for that, maybe tack that on to your choice of cab sim as a headphone output.

Found some answer when searching the forum:

Other questions have come to mind, I have a EQ 700 pedal and I wonder if I could dial in something that would sound like a cab sim?
Or is there some more magic to cab sims than just cutting and gaining frequencies, like a 7-band EQ can do?

Excellent! Just build a Ruby and you're there.
Yes, there seems to be a little magic to cab sims, but if you can approximate the response curve of your favorite amp cab (more Googlin'!) you'll do OK enough until you get a proper cab sim built.
Whether it does better or not, building it will be a learning experience and you'll have another toy to play with!

Most folks like Runoffgroove's Condor, DSchwartz's Multisim or  the Bulldog Cab Sim (heard on many of the Runoffgroove sound samples).
There's also the stock Marshall circuit you can play with if you like that tone.
