If anyone has both of these guitars, would they please check to see if the LPJ is very much louder than the Strat. If not, something is amiss with my Strat :icon_cry:

P90 pickups have more output than Strat pickups, humbuckers are also generally louder than Strat pickups.  I use a buffer/booster pedal on my board, to boost a little when I change to my Strat or Tele from a Gibson guitar.  Is this your first Gibson?.  Just wondering.

First and only, had it since 1987 and the Strat since 1977 but never compared outputs before!

Hi, if your Strat may have problems, its probably best to head over to the Fender Discussion Page (FDP) board at

http://www.fenderforum.com/forum.html?db=

They are extremely helpful on all things Fender

My main guitar (Strat-style) has a Duncan JB-4 in the bridge and my Malmsteen Strat has a Dimarzio HS-3 in the bridge and it is quite noticeably lower in volume. Although these pickups aren't stock, I would still say it's normal to have different volumes. And these differences are exacerbated by using certain pedals. Like when I run through a distortion pedal (which is all the time!), these guitars are completely different animals! Hope this helps.

I've got a 1980's Strat that I've recently put some decent (Bare Knuckles, Cornwall's finest) pickups in.  I've also got an old (1960) Les Paul Special with the original P90's.

I compare the two alot as I'm designing and building low power valve amps and need it to sound good with both guitars.

The P90's have much more output than the Strat.  I can set the amp so that it's just breaking up with the Strat and then plug in the Les Paul and it's well into clipping.

P90's have a big fat magnet and lots of turns of wire = more output.

I did have a Bill Lawrence blade type humbucker in the bridge of the Strat - the P90's were still louder.

Hope that helps!
