I really miss my DOD FX56 American metal pedal

I used to have a DOD FX56 American metal pedal about twenty-two years ago. Anyway I loved the way it sounded. It had amazing crunch and scream. Does anyone make these anymore? What other pedals come close to it? Would they be hard to make? Are the schematics that are available accurate? Were there a lot of variances in the three knob circuit version? Or were they all more or less the same?

Thank you.

At least when it was on I knew it. Not like a lot of other popular pedals.

I had one, too, and I do miss it. It doesn't fit my current rig/tone, but it was a cool pedal anyway!!

I have one that I use once every five years or so. It seems to play well with some amps, and not so much others. I see one pop up every so often in Trent Reznor's studio photos.

i think it has in line diodes, like the hm-2. so there is some crossover distortion designed into it,so like overdrive said, you will definately know that its on.

There's a bunch of these things on Ebay.  I've gotten DOD pedals for between $20-25.  I think you can find another one easily, probably a mint one with the box if you are patient.

If you look at the schematics of the DOD pedals from that era, there are several that are very similar with the gyrators/EQ being the only thing different.  There are 3 gyrators, low mid and high.  IIRC the earliest ones had lots of mids.  As musical tastes changed, they changed the EQ to match.  They are also similar to the Boss metal distortions.   :icon_cool:

Yeah I need to be more patient. The first one I got from ebay just squealed and squealed on every setting. I lost money on it.

If you get a defective pedal from Ebay, and it wasn't listed as such, you should immediately contact the seller and get your money back.  I have learned to ask questions about pedals on Ebay I'm thinking of bidding on, sellers often don't list the defects.  But if your pedal didn't work right, you should get your money back.  I have sent a couple of pedals back myself.
