Okay. I built an Ampeg Subblaster. Its a simplified OC-2 really. No 2nd octave.

Heres my issue, and I wonder if this is also with the diy oc-2's out there...

THe pedal is VERY sensitive..just lightly touching the strings or..grabbing the string and movinc it about will trigger the CD4013 to produce the lower octave sound...Obviously I only want the lower octave when I play.

I have this is a pdf for emailing. Might be easier than what you see.

But the only mod I did, was change the J175 to a J201. The 175 is  P channel and I did the J201 mods you see on the chopped oc-2 thats around here. The pedal works like that and man that lower octave is LOUD!!!

The lower octave kills the lower octave on the new MXR Bass Octave Deluxe..i have that pedal...just the over sensitivity of the ampeg unit is too much for use.

hi chicagomike,

i was the guy providing the gutshots and the preliminary schematics for the sub blaster on the other forum  ;)
that overly sensitive triggering is not there in the original sub blaster.
i built an oc-2 on veroboard years ago that is still my main octaver (also did it without the 2nd octave down), and that one is also not suffering from over-triggering.

what i can remember is that the old ebs octaver suffered from the same problem; you would just touch the strings, and the thing would go *grrrmbl* or *shwsssshhh*.
actually, nobody else (especially the sales persons in the shop) believed me, and when i finally read a column by bryan beller much later in the bass player mag where he complained about the same thing, i knew i´m not "hearing the grass grow" but that thing was for real  :D

what layout did you use to build ?

i liked the tracking of the sub blaster, but the lower octave of the oc-2 sounds much better to me, more synth-like.

i´m very curious how the pearl that i just finished sounds on bass...

cheers,
