noisy cricket prob

Ive read the threads and havent tried the cap across 3 and 6 yet, I couldnt get it to work with a MPF102 but if I use a 2n3906 and gator clip 3 lug of the tone to 3 lug of the vol, it works if the grit switch is off, switch the grit switch on and I can still hear my guitar but theres a high pitch oscillation in the background. Im thinking I have the vol and tone pots missed wired some how......... sound like it may be the problem?......... this thing seems to cause alot of problems for builders.
