LofoMofo Diode 1N5817 Substitutes

Gentlemen,

Just a simple question here. Planning to build myself a LofoMofo, the schematic says 1N5817 but the local store nearby only carries 1N5819.

Looking at the datasheet (http://www.jaycar.com.au/images_uploaded/1N581719.PDF), the only major difference I can see is the voltage, however, I'm not sure how it would affect the way the circuit works.

Has anyone here tried building the pedal using 1N5818/19, and had a good result? It seems some people had some trouble making the distortion pot work, and I'm not sure if it's due to a incorrect diode...

a 5819 works fine.  Alternatively, use a Ge diode.
