Can a battery harness be removed without any detrimental effects?

Pedal in question is a NYC Big Muff Pi.  Reason being is that there is a lot going on under the hood and I don't like it flopping around in there since it is unused.  The input jack is stereo.  If I unhook it should I jumper the ring connection to the tip connection?

Yes. Removing it should be fine if there's a DC socket.

Some 9v batteries came with a plastic 'safety cap'.
I lost every one of them but still tie plastic wrap around, or...
Start with a 3'' length of electrical tape with a slightly larger than battery clip profile piece of paper near-ish one end of the tape. Wrapped around the clip-button end, it insulates the contacts and keeps the tapey-goo off of them.
Use good electrical tape with a little 'hinch-fold' barely in the end of the stretch, this makes it easier to start gently removing the insulator in case you want to.
It preserves the battery function and protects against misconnect touches.
Convention creates following, following creates convention.

Thanks guys.  I've actually already taped over the contacts and it still urks me just being there, so I guess I'll just remove it.  My pedals are all block powered anyway.

I agree, I don't build with clips, never have.  If I need to run on battery power then I have bigger problems to worry about.

I like having the option of a battery sometimes, but the hassle of removing the back plates of most DIY enclosures makes it so NOT worth doing.

I appreciate that Boss/Digitech/Etc. pedals have the easy to access battery panels built into their footswitches. Makes for easy use without having to worry about powering them (i.e, pedaltrain Mini/Nano Boards).
