Germanium Trannies with high gain

Hi. Searched this but all answers were pretty vague.
I've come across a few (took a chance on a small lot from overseas) germ trans that have totally acceptable leakage, but very high gain (not body-heat induced, used tweezers). Some as high as 275 hfe.
Should I be suspect of these, or just go by the rule of try it, if it sounds good, use it?
Or could this be indicative of another problem having nothing to do with leakage? Always thought that 200 hfe was about max for ge's.
Thanks!!!

I have a few dozen Ge transistors with hFe 200-400 and leakage less than 100 by the R.G. Keen method.

I have some AC125's that are well into the 300's

If you test the leakage and it's low, that's what the test is for.

Beyond that, if it sounds good, use it.

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.

thanks fellas. So these were just "flukes"?
Kinda excited to use them in a FF. I happen to like high gain si FF's. Thinking about putting a 2n5089 in Q1 and a high-gain Germ in Q2.
