Need some FF reassurance

I am building a FF from the following layout:

So here is my question. I have some 2N388 NPN Germanium trannys for this circuit. Could I just use Francisco's Negative ground version on the layout with the 2N388s?

Just want to make sure that IS ALL I have to do.

Also, would it be advisable to insert a diode between input voltage and ground to protect against overvoltage?

Thanks for the responses.

NPN Neg. Ground with NPN transistors is correct wiring, anyway.

You've described how to use a reverse polarity protection diode, anode=stripe end of a 1n4001 [or 4007 or 400x] to + rail, plain end to ground.
Voltage regulators can put out a precise voltage [nice for adressing over-volt protection] also nice if ripple and AC power supply hum is a problem..
Just measuring the voltage of the supply to make sure the component ratings will take it [+10%] before applying it is generally sufficient.
